How many milligrams does Seronex contain per serving, and what is the normal, or recommended, dosage?
Seronex contains 100 milligrams (mg) of botanically derived 5-HTP. Taken one to three times daily (100 – 300mg), we feel that this dosage provides for the best therapeutic benefit for various conditions related to imbalances of this important neurotransmitter. There has been no established ‘recommended’ dosage(s) for 5-HTP, as it is considered a nonessential nutrient. However, clinical studies regularly employ amounts ranging from 200 to 600mg.
Can’t I get the same affects if I eat foods high in tryptophan, like turkey?
Although there are some chemical similarities, tryptophan is not the same compound as 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan). In addition, there are no food sources of 5-HTP, but there are many dietary foods rich in tryptophan. Dietary sources of tryptophan are considered (largely) ineffective at providing therapeutic benefit for miscellaneous conditions, so it’s highly doubtful you’ll receive any therapeutic effect from consuming large amounts of tryptophan-rich foods. What’s more, supplemental 5-HTP has an approximated 70% conversion to serotonin, while tryptophan obtained from food, only a meager 3%.
Is there an easy way to describe how Seronex 5-HTP works?
In your body, tryptophan is synthesized to 5-HTP which is then converted to serotonin. Serotonin undergoes additional conversions in the pineal gland; it is considered one of the most important neurotransmitters in human physiology. Serotonin is the brain’s master impulse controller for processes relating to blood pressure, respiration, and cognitive and emotional well being. When serotonin levels are low, we can begin experiencing problems with attentiveness and concentration. If this deficiency becomes worse, sleep disturbances, chronic fatigue, and appetite disturbances can occur as well.
Can I take Seronex 5-HTP with my current medications?
There is potential for 5-HTP to interact with commonly prescribed medicinals, especially those used to treat depression. Progressive Health does not recommend supplementing with Seronex 5-HTP if you are currently taking one of the following classes of medicines:
- Serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and
- Other antidepressants.
If you are currently taking any of these medications and wish to still supplement with Seronex 5-HTP, you should talk to your physician about your options as well as serotonin syndrome – a potentially serious drug-related condition, characterized by a number of mental, autonomic and neuromuscular changes.
If I decide to order Seronex, are Progressive Health's products sent discreetly?
Yes; Progressive Health respects your privacy. All orders will be shipped in a plain, unmarked envelope with a return address from Progressive Health Nutraceuticals Inc. (For more information about our shipping and billing policies, see Shipping and Billing below)
How soon can I expect to see results?
The results derived from Seronex are dependant on the individual and condition severity. While a large number of customers yield immediate results, others may see results in only a few short weeks. Generally, we advise that you use the product continuously, for a minimum of 45 - 60 days.
Are there any side effects when taking Seronex?
As with all nutritional supplements, there is potential for reaction. Progressive Health ensures that all potential conflicts and side effects are listed on the product information pages. However, we strongly recommend consulting with your physician if you suffer from any pre-existing conditions, known allergies, or if you are currently taking any medications. Based on customer feedback, order history, and regular product overview, there has yet to be a report of any serious side effects resulting from the implementation of Progressive Health products into existing treatment programs.
